Dental Sedation Explained

An important aspect of children’s dental care and treatment is ensuring that each child receives the most comfortable, pleasant experience possible during his or her dental appointment.

Protecting children’s relationship with their dental office is paramount to be able to achieve a positive experience for patients during their treatment and to prevent future fear of dental office  visits.

Often, children whose dental office visits lead to a bad experience due to a dental office’s inability to keep their youngest patients’ comfort in mind, end up developing an unfortunate aversion to dentists, later preventing them from participating in the simplest of regular dental checkups.

At Summer Glen Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics, we take our patients’ comfort and relationship with our dental team seriously.

When deciding the best way to proceed with our youngest patients, our dental team takes into account several factors such as the patient’s level of cooperation, their age and behavior, size and scope of treatment needs, their risk of future dental decay and their medical history, to name a few. In treatments where sedatives are needed, we employ options such as Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas), Oral Conscious Sedation and Sleep Dentistry (General Anesthesia).

At Summer Glen, we believe that it is not only our responsibility and duty to care for our patients’ oral health, but also to safeguard and nurture their relationship with our dental team so that they can enjoy a lifetime of great oral health.
